For sale at Big 4 Classic Cars is a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible.
This black big block is powered by a 375 horse 396 with the L-89 aluminum head option. This was a true screamer! Solid lifters and high compression pop-up pistons with free-flowing aluminum Winters GM cylinder heads. This is not an original L-89 car, or the price would be near double as only a handful were ever built. However, this is a very accurate representation of a real L-89 car. The car featured has received a full frame off restoration in 2014 and will stop most people dead in their tracks.
The paint appears as if it is miles deep and the rumble emitting from the coated ceramic headers and Flowmaster mufflers is intoxicating. Putting the power to the pavement is a close ratio Muncie M-21 4 speed manual, 12 bolt rear end with 4.10:1 positraction gears and some wide radial rubber. The rear tires are 275/60R15 and the car needs it! These big blocks were known for their stump pulling torque. The solid lifter variant of the big blocks were some of the meanest on the street. With a redline of 6,500 RPM and a factory underrated 375 horsepower, this was not a car to underestimate. True power numbers are far above 400 horsepower, especially with headers. Some sources say adding headers to a solid lifter high RPM Chevy Big Block was worth 75-100 extra horsepower. The factory cast iron exhaust manifolds were very restrictive. Equipment on this big block 4-speed convertible include Power top, Power brakes, Power steering, Power windows, tilt steering column and an AM/FM radio. Triple black with Magnum 500 wheels wrapped with BFG radial rubber, this car is gorgeous.
